Hiring a Technical Editor for Baeldung

Let me start off by saying this is not the typical code focused article I usually publish here on Baeldung. In fact, it’s the very first non-technical piece on the site in over 4 years. I usually reserve the meta stuff for meta.baeldung.com.

Jumping right to it – the site is growing, new authors are staring to contribute and I’m looking for a part-time technical editor to help and work with these new authors.

And what better way to find a solid content editor for the site than reaching out to readers and the community.

Who is the right candidate?

First – you need to be a developer yourself, working or actively involved in the Java and Spring ecosystem. All of these articles are code-centric, so being in the trenches and able to code is instrumental.
Second – you need to have your own technical site / blog in the Java ecosystem (or have some similar experience). Also, your own site cannot be super-small – a 3-post blog is really not enough to do a good evaluation.

Finally – and it almost goes without saying – you should have a good command of the English language.

What Will You Be Doing?

You’re going to work with authors, review their new article drafts and provide helpful feedback. The goal is to generally make sure that the article hits a high level of quality before it gets published. More specifically – articles should match the Baeldung formatting, code and style guidelines.
Beyond formatting and style, articles should be code-focused, clean and easy to understand. Sometimes an article is almost there, but not quite – and the author needs be guided towards a better solution, or a better way of explaining some specific concept.

Typical Time Commitment and Budget

The typical number of new articles in any given week is 3. And the typical article will take about 2 rounds of review until it’s ready to go.

All of this usually takes about 1 hour of work for a small to medium article and can take 1.5 to 2 hours for larger pieces.

Overall, you’ll spend somewhere around 16-20 hours / month.

The budget for the position is 600$ / month.

Apply

If you think you’re well suited for this work, I’d love to work with you to help grow Baeldung.

Email me at eugen@baeldung.com with your details.

Cheers,

Eugen.
